Bridge is a partnership game - what if I haven't got a partner?
- It doesn't matter! Part of the reason you are learning to play is to meet new friends. You'll soon have lots of partners!
Is it difficult to learn?
- Not if you can count to 13! You will learn more quickly if you do your homework. You can also speed up your rate of progress by playing in between lessons, either with the new friends you've met in class or come along to the Supervised Play Sessions on a Thursday evening at Spondon.
Bridge is just for rich old ladies isn't it?
- Not quite! People of all ages play bridge and you come across folk from all walks of like. Personally, I've made a lot of friends through playing bridge and you will too. OK, there are a few of the rich and famous who enjoy the game.
Like who?
- Bill Gates, Omar Sharif, Diana Rigg, Billie-Jean King, Martina Navratilova, Mike Gatting, Sue Lawley, Jeremy Clarkson, Jeremy Paxman, Errol Brown, Blur, Radiohead...
Do I need any special equipment?
- A pen and some paper for class and a pack of cards for your homework. You'll be provided with everything else.
I can't make the times of your lessons. Can you help?
- Yes, I may be able to put you in touch with another local teacher. It may also be possible to arrange private lessons at a place and time to suit you.
Is it an expensive night out?
When you've learnt to play, bridge is a very cheap hobby. At the East Midlands Bridge Academy, Spondon, table money varies between £3 and £3.50 per session.
