| Old School: You will be pleased to hear that heating and lighting to the main hall have been restored. There will be bridge as usual from Tuesday, 17th April. However, full power to the bar and side rooms may not be restored for some time. Since we need to have full power in the kitchen for the Mixed Pairs / Flitch (scheduled for Sunday, 29th April), it has been postponed to a date yet to be decided. The Atkin Cup has also been postponed. | |

| Atkins Cup 2007 ( Holders: Mary and David Marshall) This is a Swiss Pairs Competition and will take place on Sunday 15th April. Players should be seated at 1:45 for a 2 p.m. start. Hot drinks will be available and the bar will be open, but bring your own sandwiches. To ensure the success of this event please let Mary know of your entry as soon as possible. | Congratulations to Malcolm Young & Mo Logan for finishing 5th in National Mixed Pairs Championship (The Portland Pairs). On Sunday, 18th March 2007 there were 11 regional centres, simultaneously scored nationally. The final round of Winter League matches

division match which will determine who is going to be second and promoted

| At the Leicester Green Point Pairs on Saturday 11th March, Don Smedley and John Griffin led all the way until the last round when they slipped to 3rd place, losing to the eventual winners, Nevena Senior and Gitte Hecht-Johansen. Derbyshire's new Essex man, Stephen Lally was 5th playing with Ron McEwan. Unfortunately, they got wopped in the last round by Brian Senior and Sandra Penfold who finished second. full results | In the Leicester GP Teams on Sunday 12th March, John Armstrong won playing with Alan Mould, John Holland and Michelle Brunner. | Richard Edward's Seniors KO team have now reached the last 4 of this year's competition. They overcame a team of past finalists from Middlesex in their match on 22nd February. Richard's team is himself, Bob Ross, Bill Townsend, Tony McNiff and Giles Foster all from Yorkshire. | John Armstrong and Howard Melbourne have won the Pairs Championship at the Australian Open. Over 1,000 players took part. Ron Klinger and James Ebery were second. |

| The DCBA need cup/trophy donors for the Summer Pairs and for the winners of Divisions 2, 4 and 5 of the Teams of Eight leagues. Please contact the secretary, Jennifer Floutier if you would like to contribute. | The EBU allocated a congress voucher worth up to £70 to the county committee. A raffle for the voucher raised £60 for the charity of choice of the winner who was Mary Martin. |
| On Sunday, 14th January 2007, Derbyshire won all three of their away matches versus Nottinghamshire. The 1st team by 11-9, the 2nd team by 16-4 and the 3rd team by 13-7. The Notts hosts are to be congratulated on the excellence of their half-time buffet. | |

Edwards & Ron McEwan. Runners up were Peter Kelly & Alex Hogg
with Jacky Marah & Martin Brailsford third. These 3 pairs qualify to

| Derby Bridge Club's Friday Swiss Pairs start again this Friday, 12th January. These fortnightly events will continue until March 23rd. Jennifer and Roger Floutier make sure that these popular sessions are run efficiently. Cash prizes on the night with overall cash prizes for the best three out of 6 sessions. | |

| John Armstrong, partnering Paul Hackett, finished second in the prestigious Nail Life Master Pairs at the Fall North American Bridge Championships in Hawaii in November. The Fall NABC was held over 10 days and taking part is a must for many of the world's top players. | One reason for the teams' poor performance against Staffs was that Mick and Sheen Haytack were unable to play. They were in Scotland for the superb Peebles Congress. There they finished 4th out of 82 in the Swiss Teams, winning 8 out of 9 matches, losing only to the eventual winners. Then they finished 3rd out of 166 in the Championship Pairs (Click Here for full results). Congratulations on such a fine performance. | |

| Miranda Vinecombe and Gary Watson have added yet another Pairs Trophy to their collection by winning the DCBA's Invitation Pairs on Sunday, 18th November, 2006. After an excellent first session they successfully held off a second session challenge from Don Smedley and Ron McEwan who finished runners up. | The 2005/2006 Vic Morris Cup has
finally been won by the team captained by John Shaw. John's
partners were Kathy
Shaw, Randy Curzon and Geoff Calladine. In the final,
played on 13th November 2006, they wopped Ron McEwan's team by

| There was a very tight finish to the DCBA's Invitation Teams of Four championship for the Macfarlane Cup on Sunday, 22nd October, 2006. David Briggs' Derbyshire team were first with 49 VPs. His team-mates were Maggie Beale, Arnold & Sandra Chandler. Another Derbyshire team were second with 46 VPs: Roger & Jennifer Floutier, Gitte Lee & Tony Haywood. The holders, Margaret Anderson's Warwickshire team, were third with 44 VPs. | |
| Richard Edwards' Derbyshire team has won the National Teams of Four championship for The Crockfords Plate. They beat David Graham's team in the 48 board final held at Kettering Bridge Club on Sunday, 15th October, 2006. Richard's team-mates were Bob Ross, Andy Wells, Ron McEwan and that well known Yorkshire Ringer, Giles Foster. | The

the new season's Crockfords

Things can only get tougher from now on. In fact Don Smedley's team
has also reached the third round so that's one particularly fine team

| Local pairs did well at the Derbyshire Green Point Pairs event on Saturday, 30th September. Dave and Mary Marshall were joint first with John Armstrong and Ron McEwan. Howard and Annice Morton finished in a creditable 9th place, winning 6 out of their 7 matches. Amanda Grimsey is to be congratulated on running the event so efficiently, persuading 94 pairs from all over the country to take part. | 35

October, 2006. The winners were a young team led by Susan
Stockdale, her team-mates being
Bryony Youngs, Chris Cooper and Nathan Piper. Derek George's
Derbyshire team were very unlucky not to win. They finished in 3rd
place after winning all 7 of their matches. Two other Derbyshire teams
finished 5th equal and another 8th.
